Job Summary

Account Directors report directly into the Head of Business Management or a Board Director. They have a pivotal role working closely with the Board to ensure MC&C maximise profitability through exceptional work and team management. AD’s are expected to run a significant portfolio of accounts and to manage account teams which consist of staff at all levels from Media Assistant through to Senior Business Managers.

Typically Account Directors have at least seven years’ experience and they will have built a significant level of experience and insight across varied account portfolios. Account Directors are key to the effective running of teams as well as being strategic partners to their clients, media owners, suppliers and the wider agency.

 

The Role

  • Ensure MC&C retain and develop a profitable relationship with clients and deliver excellent client satisfaction survey results and identify areas of improvement
  • Optimise the opportunities to engage clients across all media channels
  • Seek excellence in the provision of innovative and commercial solutions to client briefs
  • Deliver best in class service to MC&C creative partners
  • Accurately anticipate future consequences and trends in order to build vision for the client account
  • Drive integration and collaboration across the agency
  • Identify and tackle agency wide issues as and when they occur
  • Develop, coach and motivate the team and encourage cross learning between departments
  • Build and develop exceptional working relationships with all relevant senior level clients
  • Deliver commercial value for both the agency and your clients

Client Facing

  • Ensure your accounts are in the best possible hands by delivering exceptional level of client service across all touch points
  • Generate chemistry with clients and become a valued and trusted business partner
  • Act as the expert and ensure you are included in all conversations regarding market strategy
  • Truly understand clients’ business needs as well as the competitive set
  • Lead client strategy meetings and deliver major presentations to the most senior contacts
  • Have the ability to resolve client conflict and be able to identify potential threats early, addressing them appropriately

Media Owner & Supplier Facing 

  • Represent MC&C to senior level Media Owners to improve the understanding of and empathy of your client needs
  • Gather market intelligence on competitor activity and any new opportunities arising
  • Oversee direct reports’ negotiations with Media Owners to achieve commercial value for the agency, the client and Media Owner
  • Ensure any Media Owner disputes are resolved in a speedy manner

Company Facing

  • Generate personal development plans for direct reports
  • Organise and lead weekly workloads and progress review meetings with the team
  • Ensure that effective and agreed media briefs are delivered by the wider team and that they understand the tasks allocated to them and are capable of completing them.
  • Effectively identify and manage the resource required to deliver client briefs on time, both internal and external
  • Foster a team environment of open and regular feedback
  • Actively promote team achievements upwards and agency successes downwards
  • Manage, motivate and develop the full team ensuring they are stretched and stimulated by their work and well integrated

 

Key Deliverables

  • Own the client’s strategic direction
  • Oversee accurate billing forecasts
  • Identify and deliver organic income from your client portfolio
  • Demonstrate ongoing training and support to the team
  • Hold senior client contacts and be responsible for excellent client satisfaction scores
  • Have the ability to identify area for improvement and implement the strategy to deliver
  • Lead weekly team meetings and delegate appropriately
  • Ensure that playbooks are regularly updated with the latest client intelligence
  • Facilitate the delivery of any insight project targets
  • Actively support and when asked participate in client pitches
  • Run team appraisals
  • Strengthen client relationships across all levels
  • Deliver all client SLA’s
  • Fully conversant with the 30 second elevator pitch across all agency initiatives and be able to upsell when appropriate
  • Demonstrate improvements in efficiencies and ways of working
  • Manage client profitability and ensure appropriate resourcing
  • Attract and retain good people
  • Promote the agency, it’s clients and work, internally as well as externally – be an Ambassador
  • Be a spokesperson for the agency within industry committees/conferences/trade press

 

Required Skills, Capabilities and Further Development

  • A proven self-starter who can work autonomously
  • Experience on both performance and brand clients ranging from charity to retail
  • Excellent knowledge of all media channels specifically press, inserts, outdoor, radio and TV
  • Demonstrate strong leadership ability and be approachable, in turn gaining the respect of the team
  • Demonstrate strategic thinking and long term vision
  • Problem identification and solving at a senior level
  • A creative thinker who likes to push the boundaries when it comes to finding new routes to market and grow revenue

  • Demonstrate commercial acumen and the ability to manage and grow revenues

  • Ability to work closely with other agencies e.g. creative, to provide an all agency approach to client briefs

We would expect a good level of Excel and PowerPoint expertise and it would be an advantage if you have any of the following;

  • TGI / Touchpoints (IMS)

  • Internal response analysis systems e.g. Matchfit
