The MC&C 2018 Overview
by Robin Trust, CEO MC&C
In all my years in advertising I cannot recall a more tumultuous or unpredictable year as the one that is now drawing to a close.
Whether it’s the issues that have directly impacted our business, from the introduction of GDPR to the sudden departure of Martin Sorrell and the subsequent drop in WPP’s value, to those that have affected the industry as a whole – not least the interminable rumbling on of Brexit, which is surely taking its toll on more than just our financial projections – 2018 has been anything but a smooth ride.
But amidst the chaos of the national picture, there has been plenty to celebrate this year closer to home.
This has been a transformative year for MC&C for all the right reasons.
We have welcomed more than a dozen new clients, including Greenpeace, Doddle, SoccerAid and Lovehoney, expanded our relationship with others including UNICEF and David Lloyd Leisure into new markets and completed a joint venture with media and creative start-up Wax/On.
On a personnel level we have added 20 new team members to our family, including Marketing Director Emily Underhill, Head of Search Angie Knibb, Programmatic Director Olumide Gomes and Head of People Ali Sergeant. We have also celebrated the very well-deserved promotions of Genevieve Tompkins, who became Chief Strategy Officer, and Rob Watt, our Managing Director of International who added Managing Partner to his remit as he took on more domestic duties.
And we have, of course, seen the agency’s eponymous founder Mike Colling step back from his role as CEO, a position I was honoured to be asked to fill.
2018 will go down in history as the beginning of a new era for the media industry but it will also mark the start of a hugely exciting new period in MC&C’s history.
The year ahead promises to be another big year for the agency as we consolidate on the foundations we have put in place over the past 12 months.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each member of the MC&C team, every one of whom is an essential cog in our operation. Their commitment to our clients and genuine passion for the job in hand is, I believe, what sets us apart as a business.
And a huge thank you must also go to you, our clients, media partners and industry friends whose ambitions, expectations and willingness to test new ground continue to challenge and drive us to bring our best selves to work every single day.
From the whole team here I would like to wish you a very happy Christmas and a happy, healthy and successful 2019.
